Orchids - Gravestone

Portland stone carving in relief - 300mm wide. This orchid design was carved on a bespoke gravestone. This type of carving can be carved for a smaller Wall Art sculpture.

Portland is a lovely stone to carve, it is used to make England's most prestigious buildings like St Paul's Cathedral. Katherine particularly likes this stone as it was the stone she learnt to carve on at college. Her college was situated next to the stone quarry.

Katherine’s loves carving her stone Wall Art. It is her version of painting or drawing but in stone. It has no limitations allowing her to carve a landscape, portrait, or other. She enjoys carving close up detailed leaves and foliage influenced by her love of nature and her architectural carving of decorative leaves.

She draws on her sculptural skills which can be seen in the stone carving creating the illusion of 3D in a 2D form. She carves in both realistic and immpressionistic styles. People comment on how delicate and detailed her carvings are.

They make an ideal gift and can be embellished with carved letters; such as a name, date or special phrase. They can also be gilded or painted.

The idea of her Wall Art is to create something beautiful in stone that can easily be placed in a home or small flat. It can be hung from a wall or placed on a shelf. The stone is small and light as it is hollowed out at the back with picture hooks installed.
